Four primitive layers determine form and function of gall organs

During the process of Gall Cultivation, users are guided by 4 questions to design gall organs. Those questions are translated into 4 primitive layers that determine the form and function of each gall organ.

Layer 1: Form primitives

What shape does it grow?

  7. Horn / spike
  8. Fibre mass / floss
  9. Felt / pile surface

Layer 2: Material primitives

What is it made of?

  1. Hardwood
  2. Porous / foam
  3. Orient fibres
  4. Elastic / hygroscopic
  5. Transparent / translucent
  6. Brittle / friable
  7. Waxy
  8. Papery

Layer 3: Function primitives

What does it do?

Function Description
1. Nothing but be a shape
2. Holds something water, air, heat, smell
3. Lets something pass, or refuses to carries liquid/air, absorb water, sealed, filters
4. Concentrate something fragrance, pigment, tannin, glue or resin, lipid or oil, sugar, nutritions (protein, lipid), medicinal (alkaloids, flavonoids), etc.
5. Gathers something pulls metal from the ground, pulls something from the air or rain
6. Notices something sense and react, records, count, compute

Layer 4: Site primitives

Where does it grow?

  1. Site of plants: leaf, stem, root, trunk ,etc.
  2. On a specific location of other galls
