Synthetic Gall Inducer is a tool that let people design their own environment
Synthetic gall inducers are human engineered substance based on natural gall inducing process. These inducers have the same functions as natural inducers; altering plant's developmental plan to create something or some functions that benefit the inducers. The synthetic inducers, though, are far more complex to meet the humans complex needs. To break down those complexities, modular synthetic inducers system are developed.
Seeing plant galls as tools of freedom, the modular systems are design to be easy to use and understandable to everyone. People needs of objects or functions can be meet by assembling components, which are called gall organs. These organs have various properties and shapes, letting users mix them however they like. For example, a gall organ can grows into a cylinder shape from hardwood, which could be use for table's legs, or a gall organ that concentrate and release fragrance compound could be use to create a fragrance table. Also, each organ can grows on (or attach) to each other to create more complex shape or functions.
This modular system guide people to design such complex result by pose 4 questions, which will determine what inducers they need.
- What shape does it grow? - Ball, disc, rod, tube, cup, sheet, fluff, spine, cluster.
- What is it made of? - Hard, soft, foam, felt, waxy, stony, springy, papery.
- What does it do? - Holds water, makes scent, stores sugar, houses bees, changes colour, keeps a record, does nothing but be a shape.
